Kula Yoga Day in Avon, Connecticut

For those of us who do not believe in coincidence, it’s neither surprising nor ironic that Kula Yoga’s anniversary and Yoga Day USA are just one day apart.  Each year, we gather together to celebrate this alignment.

Kula Yoga’s dedicated and inspirational teachers have been blessed with the opportunity to celebrate both the anniversary of our opening and Yoga Day USA by offering a full day of free yoga to our community, and we did again in 2009.

Each Kula Yoga staff member brought something special to her mat, but each had the same goal: to help her students enrich their lives through yoga.  Our teachers offered classes in Anusara Yoga, Anusara-Inspired Gentle Yoga, Vinyasa Flow, Gentle Yoga, Family Yoga, Yin Yoga, and Yoga Pilates Fusion.  Over 200 students passed through our doors, more then 10% of them new to yoga.  Men, women, children (ages 3 and up), adults, seniors, raw beginners, experienced yogis…they all came to enjoy both the practice and our "community of the heart."

What a tremendous joy and a welcome responsibility!  It is always rewarding to watch someone do his first class, or to see a student finally come fully into a challenging pose that she has tried many times before, or to witness as a child exuberantly flows through her vinyasa.  All of us at Kula Yoga, teachers, desk staff, and volunteers, were so happy to spend our day sharing with old and new friends a taste of this practice – this life! – which has given us so much.
