Pranayama & Meditation at Pranaa Studio in Plano TX

Pranayama & Meditation at Pranaa Studio in Plano TX
Posted by: Denise Hogan, RYT 500

A small but interested group of Yoga practitioners met at Pranaa in Plano Texas on Saturday, January 23 for an hour for a taste of the power of pranayama & meditation.

Fundamental to the class was the idea that Yoga is about connecting with awareness or Self.  Vital tools are the breath, which links body and mind, and meditation, which links mind and awareness.

Students started with asana with breath adaptation specifically geared to develop inhale, retention, exhale and suspension.  A seated pranayama session using "box" breathing or 1:1:1:1 ratio followed the focused asana session.

After pranayama, students were guided through a meditation with the theme of being connected or linked: first to Self, then progressively outward to fellow Yogis across the U.S. practicing for YogaDayUSA, the earth, the solar system, and into the farthest reaches of the cosmos, and then back again into our practice space.

A deep stillness and sense of cohesion pervaded the studio as the practice concluded with savasana.

What a gift!  As a teacher, and as a practitioner of Yoga, I felt lucky to be part of a community with a common purpose.
